The state's general revenue fund took a hit in March. Finance Secretary Preston Doerflinger says collections fell nine percent below the official estimate. He says lower income tax revenue is to blame along with an increase in tax credits claimed by businesses.
In a statement, he says it bears repeating that state agencies need to keep their belts tight and watch every penny. He says unless April collections exceed the estimate, minor appropriation reductions to agencies may be necessary for the remainder of the year.
