House Passes Stripped-Down Farm Bill

By a vote of 216 to 208, the U.S. House on Thursday approved a stripped-down version of the Farm Bill, one that does not include food stamp authorization. Oklahoma Congressman Frank Lucas, who is chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, promised to try to reach a consensus later on a separate nutrition bill. All five members of the Oklahoma delegation voted for the bill.
